Pic du Jer Funicular

One of France's first funicular railways
Work on the Pic de Jer funicular began in 1898 and was completed more than a year later.
Construction was completed quickly, thanks to an aerial carrier that transferred stones from the Petit Pic du Jer quarry. Put into operation in May 1900, it was one of the first ski lifts to be built in France. For this reason, it is an important symbol of the region.
This original means of transport enables pilgrims on their way to Lourdes to ascend to the picturesque site of the Pic de Jer. Over the years, it has become a popular tourist attraction, attracting visitors in search of exceptional views and mountain lovers. The Pic de Jer funicular also offers privileged access to hiking trails and a panoramic restaurant.
